  7. |RNature and climate:|N The archipelago consists of about 40 islands of which the 15 largest are inhabited. Furthermore a large number of rocky islets and reefs.

  11. |REconomy:|N Tourism is the dominating industry accounting for 75% of GDP. Important are also construction and rumdistilleries.
  12. |RHistory:|N Excavations have revealed that the islands were inhabited 100 AD.
  13. Columbus landed in the archipelago 1493 during his second voyage. The first European settlers came from the Netherlands in 1648 and the archipelago was taken over by the British in 1666-.
  14. 1774 a constitutional form of government was introduced and in 1834 slavery was abolished.
  15. In 1950 a representative constitution was inaugurated.
